How adoption works…
We created the Starter Adoption Center to address a growing concern in our community: starter neglect. Too many promising cultures are being abandoned in the back of the fridge, left unfed, unnamed, and emotionally unsupported.
Our mission is simple: responsible starter placement through a thoughtful, structured adoption process.

Is this program free?
Adoption fees vary based on starter temperament, jar needs, and emotional support requirements.
Can I adopt if I’ve never baked sourdough before?
Yes. First-time adopters are welcome. We simply ask for honesty, consistency, and a willingness to learn.
Do you have “Emotionally Stable” starters available?
We do — but availability is limited.
“Emotionally Stable” starters are the most in-demand placement category and may require a brief wait period. Most applicants can expect an estimated wait time of 3–5 business days (or longer during high-demand fermentation seasons), depending on jar inventory and overall community enthusiasm.
If you need immediate placement, we can often match you with a Spicy or Needy starter sooner.
What if I travel?
Travel longer than 48 hours requires an approved Starter Guardian.
Can I surrender my current starter?
At this time, we are not accepting unsolicited surrenders. We are still recovering from 2020.
What happens if I miss a feeding?
Most cases can be resolved with a corrective action plan and a renewed commitment to the process.
How long does the program take?
Most placements stabilize within 30 days, though some starters require longer-term support.
The Flour Girl Starter Adoption Center reserves the right to deny applications exhibiting low-commitment energy.
